How do you define success?

by Marielle Reussink

I recently sat on a panel about taking back financial freedom for HoneyTalks and was asked a question that really got me thinking:

How has becoming an entrepreneur changed how you think about success?

In society, we often default to dollars as the standard measure of success, but isn’t there more to it?

For us, there’s a very clear relationship between success and motivation.

Take a moment to think about what really motivates you to get out of bed in the morning. If making money is it, that’s no less valid than anything else – after all if you don’t make money, your business won’t get very far. But if it’s not money, that’s okay too. The wonderful thing about people is that we’re all so different. Here are a few examples of motivators that can all be excellent drivers of success:

  • Setting goals and achieving them

  • Getting great feedback from customers

  • Paying down debt

  • Being able to spend more time with family

  • Hitting sales targets

  • Getting recognized through an award

  • Earning media attention

  • Solving a challenging problem

  • Improving people’s lives

  • Winning a dream client

  • Hiring new employees

Perhaps one of these speaks to you, or maybe there’s something else that makes you tick. At The Emms, we measure our success in terms of our clients’ success.

As we approach year end, we’ve been looking back, taking time to reflect on what our clients have achieved this year. Here are just a few of the highlights we’re celebrating this year – or to put it differently, here’s how we’re measuring success this year:

TinySeats surpassed their fundraising goal for their portable and convertible car seat by 48% with our Indiegogo and social media campaign.

We completed a rebrand on Canopy Power’s website, that helped them truly reflect their mission, re-engage past customers, and create a stronger online presence.

Wild Honey has been awarded with the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, making it one of the most popular restaurants. This recognition has helped them grow and become one of the most sought-after dining destinations in Singapore.

Simply Organic launched Golden Hour and Areté, two of their own new brands, designed to offer unique and high-quality beauty products.

K2S, a WMS company, changed its service offering to become platform-agnostic, resulting in the significant growth of their team and portfolio.

Wine To Share successfully sold their company as a result of having not only an established client base and retail business but also a great online presence.

Congratulations to each and every one of you! It’s been a pleasure working with you and we look forward to what we’ll achieve together in the future!

What’s your business goal for next year?

Get in touch to discuss how we can help you achieve success - however you define it!
